RTÉ Lyric fm is an Irish radio station owned by RTÉ launched in May 1999 focusing on classical music. Its target audience is ages 40+. It is available on FM throughout Ireland and via online for the rest of the world.

The website is really basic but detailed which is ideal for it's older audience to access easily with things such as large symbols and icons to help direct them. The website has a really good layout and includes lots of important information such as presenter schedules, show information and podcasts too. It is so evident looking across many stations how important uploading podcasts are these days.

You can tell the style of the station is aimed at both male and female elder listeners as the presenters don't speak any younger language. They speak slowly and simply and talk about the music giving us history on the pieces which as a fan of history myself but not classical music I found really interesting to keep listening on to. The mix of music knowledge and speech is combined really well and some links are constructed as more crunch and rolls but others are more lengthy talking all about the music. (Benoit & O' Donnell 2000) state that "The content of a station is what you say and play. It might sound obvious, but maintaining continuity of content isn't as easy as it might seem. For an on-air producer, continuity of content is maintained by not playing a blaring rock song on an easy-listening station." This station keeps the theme and feel of the show always very relaxing and calm to the listener and continuity is executed perfectly on this station.

One improvement for the station could be to use social media a bit better. I think with them having an older audience they might not think its as important compared to a younger station such as Capital. They do upload videos to YouTube of events such as "Live at the Albert Hall" and update events like this on their website too. Overall the presenters make the show really interesting and informative even to people who wouldn't be a fan or listener typically.
